DANTE: MOVING AND STORAGE TRADITION

If we are talking about a company that is deeply linked to the Uruguayan family, we need to mention Dante. For the past 64 years, Dante’s moving trucks and storage facility have witnessed both local and international moves of thousands of families that have been traditionally using the company’s services from one generation to another. On September 23, 1923, Mr. Carlos Regueira, a Spaniard married to Juan Luis Mauro’s mother, founded the company. Together with their two children Carlos and Roberto, they made it thrive and today, four generations later, Diego and Lucas continue doing so.

Juan Luis Mauro, with Carlos and Roberto Mauro, remember how it all started. When Dante was founded, it sold magazines, newspapers, cigarettes, candy, and provided cab and messenger services. Later on, they included courier and freight services. “My father started the current building”, Carlos says. This gave way to the storage facility, which originated in 1945. Nowadays, the facility has a constructed area of 3,000 square meters, which is divided into four stories, with many features that will meet all your storage needs, with private storage units and space for the fleet of trucks.

As a mere anecdote, Juan Luis Mauro recalls that in 1938, prior to World War II and with the ongoing petrol crisis, the truck fuel system was changed from gas to wood gas generators and animal-powered vehicles were included as well.

AN EXEMPLARY STORAGE FACILITY

The storage facility took off in 1945 and its prestige continues up till now, being a model in the sector. It has private storage units and a special system for preserving your items throughout their stay, including fungicide treatments, among others. Moreover, the facility offers other features that guarantee the protection of your items against climate inclemencies, mice and moths.

The facility has stored very valuable paintings from artists such as Blanes and Figari, and important works of art like Buemes’ manuscripts, jewels from the times of Carlomagno, etc.

It is used by families that are moving houses or renovating their homes, by couples that are about to get married or move abroad, by companies that need to put their papers away, by diplomats, football players, etc.

THE MOVING TECHNIQUE

Regarding moving services, Dante has been chosen by a President, like Luis Batlle Berres, by Juana de Ibarbourou, a national poetess, by diplomats and ordinary families.

“We have evolved and no longer carry out moves ‘by donkey’, as it was called”, tells us Mr. Juan Luis Mauro. With the change of building and furniture, also came the change of moving techniques, using more sophisticated equipment.
